Blessing of the Surf is an ancient Hawaiian tradition during which a call is made for safe surfing conditions for the coming summer. This event has been held annually at Woorim Surf Beach, Bribie Island since 2005.
This year the event will be held on Saturday 1st December at 7:30am at Woorim Beach. As well as the traditional Blessing of the Surf the event will also include casting of flowers onto the waters, calling to the surf on the Conch Shell and an Ocean Paddle run by the Sunshine Coast Surf School. The Bribie Island Surf Club will be providing the water safety for the event.
Patrons attending the Blessing of the Surf will also be able to purchase breakfast and coffees from the local cafes and enjoy musical entertainment in the park including an appearance by Elvis Parsley and music from the Bribie Ukulele Strummers and other entertainers. There will also be a merchandise market in the park adjacent to the Woorim Surf Beach where the Blessing will be held. This market will operate from 7:00am to noon.
